Open to new roles

Networks built right,
security built in.

I'm Sam — a security and network engineer who's designed and deployed infrastructure for over 30 businesses. I care about getting the details right.

About me

I work at the intersection of network engineering and cybersecurity — two disciplines that work best when they're designed together from the start. Over the years I've had the chance to build infrastructure for more than 30 businesses, ranging from small offices to more complex multi-site environments.

I'm certified and actively working through further specialisations — it's pushed me to think about security more broadly, not just at the network layer but across architecture, governance, and risk.

Away from screens I'm usually outdoors — skiing when the season allows, or out with a drone hunting for an interesting shot. I also spend a fair bit of time gaming, which probably explains why I have strong opinions about latency and network quality.

What I look for in a role
Ownership of real problems, a team that cares about doing things properly, and work that sits at the technical end — not purely managerial.
Location & availability
Open to remote or hybrid. Happy to discuss.

What I've done

I've designed and deployed over 30 business networks — each one different, each one with its own constraints, requirements, and politics. That volume of hands-on work has given me a practical depth that's hard to get any other way.

Network design & deployment
Scoping, designing, and physically deploying business networks from scratch — including cabling, switching, routing, wireless, and firewall configuration. Predominantly UniFi/Ubiquiti across a wide range of environments and scales.
Security architecture
Designing security into infrastructure rather than bolting it on — network segmentation, access controls, firewall policy, VPN configuration, and security auditing across a range of business environments and risk profiles.
Infrastructure & self-hosting
Running servers, homelabs, and self-hosted services on Proxmox and similar platforms. Comfortable with Linux administration, containerisation, and the operational side of keeping infrastructure running reliably.
Ongoing operations & support
Post-deployment support, monitoring, troubleshooting, and iterative improvement across the networks I've built. Understanding how a network behaves over time — under real load, with real users — has sharpened my design instincts significantly.

Get in touch

I'm open to roles in security engineering, network engineering, and IT infrastructure. Happy to have a conversation even if you're not sure whether it's the right fit — I'd rather talk early than not at all.

A note

I respond to every message personally. If you want to talk through a role, ask about a project, or just compare notes on UniFi gear — I'll get back to you.
